Dr. Katharine Zeiders’ Research Lab:

Stressors, Context, and Health

We study how sociocultural stressors impact youths’ daily and long-term functioning. We focus primarily on Latino youth (but not exclusively), identifying experiences of ethnic discrimination and stressors associated with the acculturation process. We examine multiple aspects of stressors— environmental experiences, appraisals, and physiological responses—and link stressors to multiple aspects of health and functioning that include depression, anxiety, physical well-being, and academic success. Our goal is to understand how and under what conditions are stressors impacting youth. We also consider youths’ resources (e.g., cultural values, ethnic identity, family relationships) and the ways they may mitigate the effects of stressors on health.

Katharine ZeidersKatharine Zeiders is an Assistant Professor in Family Studies and Human Development at the University of Arizona. She completed her Ph.D. at Arizona State University and two postdoctoral fellowships at Northwestern University and Arizona State University.
